Monkeying Around

Lonan kept trying to climb to the top of this thing, which is like 10 feet tall.. just about gave Poppa a heart attack. The playground is padded, but still.

The slide was much more our speed.

Note the new haircut. Abuelita took him this past weekend while Dad & Pop took a break in Palm Springs. Makes him look more boy and less baby which makes Poppa a little sad.

"My Child Will Not Watch TV til He's 2"

Whoever said that (Poppa) clearly did not have children. We did make a conscious effort to keep Lonan away from TV until shortly after he turned one and was suddenly running in a million directions at once. If we could get him to watch just 5 minutes of Sesame Street or some such program we could all catch our breath. Unfortunately 5 minutes was exactly what we got. He had very little interest in anything we showed him. But in about the last month he's taken to Thomas the Tank Engine. He recognizes some of the engines (Percy!) and dances to the song that I unfortunately can't get out of my head ("They're 2, they're 4, they're 6, they're eight, shunting cars and hauling freight..). Thomas is now part of our nighttime ritual. Should we forget, Lonan will grab the remote and bring it me and say, "Poppa, train!" And bless the creators who end the newer episodes with a scene of the trains going to bed. That's Lonan's cue and off he goes. Needless to say we have EVERY EPISODE EVER MADE on our DVR.

A very Useful Engine indeed.

Walk on the Ocean

A beautiful, warm weekend in SF.. warm enough to spend a little time on the beach. After swim lesson and a nearly-three hour nap, we hung out at the Beach Chalet with Evan & Sophie and their dads. The after party from Bay to Breakers was still in full swing.

We left about 6 and it was still warm enough to play on the beach for a while. The ocean is a bit much but tide pools are perfect.

The Hunter Gatherer

Lonan went on lots of walks while we were at Abuelita's. Every time he insisted in taking a bag and filling it up with rocks and pine cones and leaves. He'd carry his little treasure trove with him the entire walk and when we got back he would dump in the back yard. He's very big on collecting, gathering & arranging.. makes me wonder what he'll grow up to be.

A Visit with Great-Grandma

Of course he was fascinated by her cane and her hat.

Hard to believe they are 95 years apart in age, born in different centuries.

So, bad blogger. The old computer was unsalvagable, so we got a new one. But it doesn't seem to like our camera, leaving me with lots of great pics from out trip to SoCal and no way to upload them until I can get the problem figured out. But we had a wonderful three day visit.

Lonan's speech is exploding, with new words every day. Yesterday it was "happy" as I tried to get him to say Happy Mother's Day to my mom on the phone. Cookie was new as of last week. This morning it was the first word out of his mouth. I suppose a cookie before breakfast won't hurt him. Still playing hard (we continue to be the hardest working parents on the playground) but also eating everything in sight and sleeping like, well, a baby.

Visitamos el Cavallo

We're in SoCal spending time with my mom. Lonan always visits the horse that lives around the corner. Notice Lonan thinks the carrot is for him.
