Eskimo kisses. Are we still allowed to say that?

Grandma Time

We've had a great few days with my mom. She and the peanut have spent some nice quality time together, and we've enjoyed some killer meals in and out, along with some nice walks in the neighborhood. We're sad to see her go tomorrow, but we're all coming down to LA for a week in August so Lonan can meet friends and family.

Another sponge bath tonight. Not Lonan's favorite activity but he didn't put up nearly the stink he has before. Afterward he lounged for a while in the robe his Mammaw bought him. Very continental, no?

Our favorite Chinese takeout, Eric's, for dinner then some vegging out TV time for the whole family.

Nanny looks like a go. More later. Tomorrow Mom flies home, I'm going to a fundraiser pool party in the East Bay and our Atlanta friends Leslie, Bernie and their little girl Teya are coming for dinner.

Grandma in the House

My mom is here for a few days to get acquainted with her new grandson. She, Lonan and I took a nice walk down 24th St. yesterday while Doug was on a conference call. We grabbed some lunch, went to the grocery store and stopped by Radio Shack for a new card for the camera. I can't imagine how the last one filled up so fast... baby pics ya think? I made a meatloaf for dinner and other Dennis joined us and brought dessert... fresh berries and cream. Mmmmmmm. I wore Lonan in the sling and he slept while we ate. Then he woke up and enjoyed his dinner at the table with the rest of us.

In other news, we have a hot lead on a nanny who I think will be perfect for us. 2nd interview with her tomorrow. Fingers crossed please.

Weekend Update

Well that weekend flew by. We really hunkered down and just tried to settle into our new routine. Art and Bob came by Friday night with a beautiful big boy outfit and stuffed dog for Lonan.

Saturday, we hung out and doted on both the boys.

Saturday night Lonan had his first dinner out. We went to our favorite neighborhood Thai restaurant, Swatdee, with David Wood. Someone (Daddy) left the diaper bag there so Sunday we went out in the stroller for the first time to retrieve it.

Lonan's disposition matches the weather we've been enjoying: sunny and warm. He is so far a very easy-going baby and doesn't fuss much beyond hungry and "hold me" - both of which are easy needs to fill. We've been giving him a bottle around eleven and that usually last 3-4 hours, meaning only one middle-of-the-night bottle between 2-3. One of us gets that and the other does the early morning bottle between 6-7. And since we're both off work right now, we've been going back to bed after that and sleeping in til 9... sweet! So we're not really sleep deprived, at least not yet. Knock wood.

Gaining Weight

Someone has gained 5 ounces and I'm happy to say it's not me. Lonan Cole now weighs an even 7 pounds. We saw Dr. Anne again today and she says he's doing great. The jaundice has cleared up thanks to some sun time with Larrabee.

Doug and I got booster shots for whooping cough. Apparently cases are soaring as they're figuring out that our childhood shots lose effectiveness. Since Lonan won't get his vaccinations for a while, Dr. Anne recommended we get booster shots. Afterward we went out for a late breakfast in the hood. I specifically got the OK from the Dr. because I don't think Doug was planning on letting Lonan out of the house until he was 12.

We got a great package today from Nana Kathy, Aunt Lindsay and birthdaddy Matt. Fun toys, a CUTE outfit and a beautiful Waterford frame. Luckily we have lots o' pics to choose from - the hard part will be picking one to put in it. Maybe we'll just rotate.

Two Firsts

First sponge bath and first dinner party. Brad, Michael, Chad and Dennis came over to say goodbye to Ashley & Mammaw. (Editor has informed me I was spelling it wrong.) I ordered a lasagna from Pasta Gina, and made a salad, garlic bread and a cherry clafoutis for dessert.

A Date with Dr. Anne

First appt. with our pediatrician, Dr. Anne at Noe Valley Pediatrics. She says Lonan is doing great, and only 1 oz. below his birth weight. He's strong, alert and eating like a champ. He does have mile jaundice, which is very common among newborns and usually peaks by at about 5 days old (which would be tomorrow). Dr. recommends about 20 minutes exposure to indirect sunlight twice a day. Here's Lonan and Daddy catching some rays.

Ashley is doing great and feeling better every day. Between her and us and Mawmaw the first few days at home have been a breeze. Last night Ash did the 1130 feeding, Doug did the 230 feeding and I did the 530 feeding. Then we all slept in til 9. Not bad. And look who's trying to hold his own bottle already.

Hiccups

A great first night at home. After spending two nights at the hospital I gave Doug the night off and took Lonan duty. But there wasn't much to do. He and Ashley fell asleep on the couch not long after a 1030p feeding. I checked on them at 1am and everyone was so peaceful I went back to bed to give them another 1/2 hour. But I didn't wake up again til almost 3. So we had a bottle
and a change and I put Lonan in his crib. He was fine at first but wanted a binky so I gave it to him and all was well... for a while. Every time he'd lose it he would start to fuss. Eventually I got tired of jumping up every 10 minutes so I just stayed up with him til about 530 when he got really fussy. Ash and Doug got up.. we had another change, and a bottle and I went back to bed. When I got up (at 9!) Daddy and Lonan were passed out on the sofa in the living room.

Mawmaw is the kitchen working on dinner, Doug & Ash are out running errands, Larrabee is napping in the nursery and I am wearing the baby while I blog. It's another beautiful day in San Francisco.

Home at last. Goodnight everyone.

Home

We are home and that is a very good thing. It's a beautiful day.

Doug, Ash & Mawmaw went to the store. I am wearing Lonan in the sling as I type.

Larrabee figured out quickly that Lonan is not a treat so he's only mildly interested. I've got to say thanks again for all the support and good wishes. We are definitely feelin' the love.

Happy father's day

Ready to get the heck out of here

Saturday, June 16, 2007

We go home tomorrow. Good night everyone.

Leave me alone already!

Wiped Out

Lonan is sound asleep after a pretty active morning. Ash and Doug got him at 5am and he was awake until about nine. He woke up again when Mawmaw and I arrived about 10. I fed him and he's been passed out ever since. I slept the sleep of the dead for 8+ hours and feel great. Doug and his mom just left to go home and get some rest. Ash is feeling good and we are expecting to leave the hospital tomorrow around noon.

Apparently I forgot to mention Lonan's vitals: 6 lbs 12 oz, 19 inches long.

Good morning

First Visitors

Uncles Brad & Chad came to visit Friday.

The Arrival

Finally getting a chance to upload the pics from the real camera... although you gotta admit, the phonecam doesn't suck.
